We have just returned from NI Days 2015 full of excitement and inspiration, enlightened by some of the technologies we’ve seen at this years exhibition and motivated by level of keynote talk taking place throughout the day.

This year’s NI Days seemed bigger than ever, with the day kicking off with a keynote speech from Francis Griffiths of National Instruments who discussed big data and the Internet of Things (IoT) to a packed out audience. The IoT featured heavily within seminars and keynotes through presentations around new technologies, collaboration, teaching and product design, as well as discussions around how National Instruments help create a climate of innovation to allow future engineers to realise the true potential of the IoT.

The event featured over 40 hours worth of technical sessions taking place throughout the day alongside an exhibition showcasing some of the work from NI’s UK Alliance Partners, ourselves included.

Visitors to the Austin Consultants stand could try their hand at beating our robot at its own game; Air Hockey! This demo showcased some of our capabilities using the NI VISION Development Module.

They were also able to play with our 2 DOF Helicopter which demonstrated some of our experience with NI’s VeriStand framework and all the embedded test capabilities that this brings.

Our third demo showed a domestic energy monitoring device; the eGenius™ designed by our sister company Green Running. The eGenius is a real-time energy monitoring device that provides households with an instant breakdown of their energy use. Sophisticated machine learning algorithms identify the unique power signatures of each household device as they are switched on and off and this information is displayed to the user through our front end mobile application.

Not only were we able to showcase some of our capabilities within the exhibition, our team were also sharing their knowledge with the wider LabVIEW community.

Our Head of Software David Catto gave a talk entitled ‘Test Cell Development: An Integrator’s Perspective’ where he discussed using both TestStand and VeriStand together in various application areas to save clients time and money when developing test systems. We filmed his talk which you can view below:

Our Data Scientists and Certified LabVIEW Architect Dr Bo Fu also took part in the Challenge the Champions event. Teams were given questions and tasks and had their LabVIEW knowledge tested to the max in front of a live audience.
