Director / Head of Finance

Peter was one of the first three people to reach Certified LabVIEW Architect status in the UK. He has over ten years’ experience across the National Instruments platform and has delivered projects as diverse as Fusion reactor control solutions to consumer retail systems.
Peter is also CEO and Founder of Green Running, creator of smart home product Verv, that uses advanced energy analytics and machine learning to help consumers save money on their energy bills, reduce their carbon footprint and keep their homes safe.
Head of Systems
Expertise: BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering (1st Class Hons), Sheffield Hallam University. Automated test systems, predominantly using NI PXI platform as a base, PID control system, embedded systems, high-speed data capture and analysis and instrumentation comms (Ethernet, RS485/422/232, GPIB). Project Management and basic mechanical fixturing knowledge.

Real-Time, FPGA, CRIO, VISION, PSoftware: LabVIEW (and add-on toolkits such as, Database/SQL, Control, report gen, signal processing), TestStand, LabVIEW Real-Time (deployed to cFP and cRIO), LabVIEW FPGA (deployed to cRIO and R-Series cards). Chris has worked on and lead, test, measurement and automation solutions across a wide range of industries including Mil/Aero, Automotive, Medical, and Manufacturing, and is responsible for managing our team of engineers.
Head of Software

David has worked with BAE Systems, Thales, EADS, CAE Inc. and prior to joining Austin Consultants in 2011 was Lead Developer for a nanotechnology company. David teaches a number of the training courses provided by Austin Consultants.
Head of Commercial
Matt has over 17 years experience in Business Development & Account Management in technical services and recruitment solutions; driving new business through working with senior stakeholders to implement strategic initiatives within the UK, Europe US, Asia, and India. Clients have included both Enterprise and SME organisations across a broad range of sectors including Engineering, Telecommunications, System Integrators & Consultancy Services, FMCG, Financial Services & Energy & Utilities.
Business Development Manager
Expertise: MEng Electric and Electronic Engineering (1st Class), University of Surrey, Certified LabVIEW Developer, Certified TestStand Developer. Chris’ background provides a balance between sales and technical know-how and allows him to quickly get to the crux of a problem and identify the appropriate solution. As a former Certified LabVIEW and TestStand Developer, he is also able to accurately assess the amount of resource required to deliver a project.
Upon graduation, Chris joined National Instruments as an Applications Engineer and quickly progressed through their Engineering Leadership Program to reach the position of Field Sales Engineer for South East England before joining Austin Consultants.
Head of Operations
Marie is an experienced Operations Manager who has an extensive background in service operations and technical project delivery at BSKYB (11years). Marie acquired her experience through the delivery of mobile applications and has had responsibility for Service Provisioning Management, Project Management, Product Introduction, and Incident Management. She has provided support for 3rd party and in-house Mobile/interactive TV/web services including but not limited to Remote Record iPhone & iPad, Mobile TV, Sky+ Android, Sky Sports News, SMS, ITV, Playboy, Sky Security Centre and Sky Arts to name a few.
Gill has over 20 years sales and marketing experience in technology and digital industries.
The primary focus of her work is to understand and analyse business challenges, and identify cost effect and sustainable solutions.
A commercially astute and results orientated problem solver Gill is skilled at maintaining a strategic overview whilst taking a pragmatic approach to implementation.
Alwyn has spent over thirty-five years in the worldwide survey industry in both Land and Hydrographic Surveying. He created and led a corporate IT team for 10 years, writing and implementing navigation and data processing software across a diverse number of projects including global offshore activities, military and survey vessels.
Alwyn has also held positions as an Associate Director of a major International Survey Company, a Chief Surveyor, Operations Manager, Technical Manager, Navigation Systems Manager and Special Projects Manager.
Senior Systems Engineer
Expertise: BSc Robotics (1st Class Hons), Plymouth University. System Architecture, Advanced UI design, Large Scale / Multi-Target applications, Process Control Systems, ATE Systems, Control (PID / Incremental / Custom Algorithms), Custom Test Sequencers, Multi-Level Alarm Systems, High-Speed Data Acquisition, Instrument Control / Driver Development. Java, C#, Embedded C, SQL, Special LabVIEW Interest in Advanced User Interfaces & VI Scripting.
National Instruments Specific Experience: Certified LabVIEW Embedded Developver, LabVIEW, Real-Time & FPGA, Toolkits including Database Connectivity / Report Generation, cRIO / Industrial Controllers / Real-Time PC, DAQmx (USB / Ethernet / PCI / PCIe).
John’s degree in Robotics provides a background in a range of software languages and tools, electronics, embedded, sensors and integration. After graduating John joined NI UK as an Applications Engineer providing support for the NI suite of hardware and software, as well as teaching the full range of the LabVIEW courses before becoming an alliance partner consultant.
John has led teams creating a wide range of LabVIEW software applications for customers across a variety of industries, primarily in Petrochemical, Manufacturing and Aerospace. The majority of applications involved control of bespoke rigs, designed and built in-house, usually based on the NI cRIO platform.
Senior Software Systems Engineer

Dan has worked as a project engineer in building services consultancy and high power electrical products, and is an experienced senior software systems engineer. Dan is a founding organiser of the South West LabVIEW User Group (SoWLUG) and has competed in the NI Days Challenge the Champions event.
Expertise: BEng Electronic Engineering, University of Surrey. Instrument Control/Driver Development, Data Acquisition. SQL, TestStand, NI DIAdem.

As part of his degree, Michael spent a year working as an Application Engineer at National Instruments and following university worked for a year as a Software Engineer for an NI alliance member. Before joining Austin Consultants Michael spent three years at a company that specialise in distributed fibre optic sensing. Whilst there he worked predominantly on a large project involving pipeline surveillance monitoring and became a Certified LabVIEW Architect.

Jason is an experienced LabVIEW Architect and mechanical engineer. He has in-depth experience of delivering a wide range of test, measurement and control projects based on the NI platform, ranging from simple data logging and analysis systems to medical testing of bone irregularities. His expertise includes LabVIEW RT and FPGA applications based on NI cRIO platform, advanced knowledge of SQL queries, and reverse engineering a wide range of legacy systems.

Certified Functional Safety Engineer
After leaving university Steve spent 6 years with the Civil Service as a systems engineer. Steve then worked for Instrumentel Ltd developing hardware for service monitoring systems using both standard wired sensors and more specialised RFID based technology. He also developed an understanding of mechanical engineering, particularly mounting electronics systems in both clean and harsh environments. Steve gained experience of LabVIEW whilst based on a one-year secondment to Atmel in Heilbronn, Germany, where he assisted in validating and characterising small batch IC’s.

Matthew Frain, a former summer 2017 intern, joined Austin Consultants following the completion of his Master’s degree in Mechatronics and Robotics at The University of Sheffield. Matthew’s time at the university provided him with in-depth knowledge and understanding of advanced control theory as well as the practical expertise to apply this knowledge to a range of mechatronic systems.
Through university, Matthew has been involved in a number of projects involving autonomous robotics and focused on the implementation of Industry 4.0 technology in manufacturing environments.
Business Unit Manager, Data Science & Industrial Internet of Things
Expertise: Konstantinos holds a BEng (Mechanical) from Sussex University, an MSc in Engineering Business Management from Warwick Manufacturing Group and an MBA(Management of Technology) from Cass Business School.
Konstantinos is an entrepreneurial product and new venture development executive with significant SaaS, data/BI, AI/ML, IIoT experience in Silicon Valley and Europe, having launched two companies in the gaming and 3D animation space, run an incubator and advised the government on industrial policy. As the Business Unit Manager he leads product, technology and business development for Data Science & IIoT.
Expertise: The University of Edinburgh: BSc Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence, MRes Neuroinformatics
Aistis graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2011 with a degree in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. For the following 5 years, he completed his post-graduate training, researching mathematical (inverse Reinforcement Learning and Bayesian) models of brain disorders. In 2016 he moved into industry, joining Green Running as part of the Data Science team working on predictive modelling within energy applications.
Expertise: BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Northumbria University, PhD Electrical Engineering, Imperial College London
Cong graduated from Northumbria University in 2012 with a 1st class honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. She completed a PhD in control theory with the control and power research group at Imperial College London in 2017. She has 4+ years’ experience in optimisation algorithm, robust control and mathematical modelling and 1 year’s industrial experience in developing machine learning solutions for real-life problems.
Expertise: Quality Management Systems and Hardware assembly.
Paul is a quality and customer support manager with over 25 years in the Electronics Manufacturing and Test sector. As Production Supervisor, he plays a key role in ensuring the successful build, delivery, commissioning and ongoing support of our automated test systems. He is responsible for supervising the production process and driving performance in safety, quality and delivery including Service Level Agreements and individual support contracts.
Expertise: Hardware assembly.
Callum is a key member of the hardware team, working with our consultants he is responsible for the wiring and construction of our custom engineering. He joined Austin Consultants following an apprenticeship and has been involved with the on-site installation of a number of major projects.
