ELECTRIC VEHICLE TEST SYSTEMS SALES ENGINEER/BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER £40K – £50K + BONUS

We have an immediate need for an innovative, results-oriented Electric Vehicle (EV) Test Systems Business Development Manager (BDM) that desires a challenging, dynamic and fast-paced environment in which to apply their skills. 

 Working as part of a growing SME experiencing recent success in cutting-edge technologies, this stimulating and varied sales role will suit an individual looking to work in the ground-breaking field of Electric Vehicle Powertrain and Battery Test.

 Austin Consultants is an engineering systems design, development and integration company specialising in consultancy, automated test, measurement and control solutions, embedded development, and data science, across a range of industries throughout the UK, and occasionally overseas.

 As one of the UK’s highest certified National Instruments (NI) partners, our team combines expertise across the NI platform, with other COTS hardware and languages, like Python, to develop mechatronics and software solutions from high-speed deterministic test and automation to complex distributed embedded systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

The EV BDM will play a key role in developing the sales pipeline as well as working with the technical team leads to ensure the integrity of all quotations with regard to technology implementation, timescales and budget.

 The successful candidate will report to Austin Consultant’s Head of Sales & Commercial with the support of the engineering and senior management teams.

 The EV BDM will be responsible for;

  • Understanding the EV powertrain and battery market conditions and trends.
  • Developing and managing a 12-month sales pipeline, ensuring high % win ratio.
  • Identifying key accounts and developing joint action plans with them to build mutual valuable relationships.
  • Undertaking all aspects of the sales cycle: lead generation, client identification, warm and cold calling, conducting client meetings and presentations, remotely and face to face, up to C- level, to position Austin Consultants’ solution and service offerings and align with clients technical and business objectives.
  • Producing quotes and following up through the sales process to completion of sales.
  • Managing & negotiating favourable contract and project terms, such as payment terms, deliverables, pricing etc.
  • Attending regular business strategy reviews with the senior management team.
  • Providing concise regular opportunity and pipeline updates to the senior management team.
  • Evaluating the success of all projects against set benchmarks, and sharing lessons or best practice.
  • Working autonomously, whilst working closely with all team members including engineering and marketing. 
  • Visiting the company’s UK offices and UK-wide potential clients to sell our value propositions and the benefits of working with Austin Consultants. 

 

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential: 

  • Minimum BEng, BSc Engineering, (BSChe, BSEE, BSME, or a related discipline), Computer Science, or Applied Physics
  • Practical experience working in a similar business development role selling technology solutions (minimum order book size of £500k. per annum)
  • Experience and a strong interest in the automotive or battery sector.
  • Proven track record of sales capability including lead generation, new business development, client relationship management and account development, market and vertical penetration.
  • Strong understanding and interest in a broad range of software languages.

Systems Engineer |Snr System Engineer (LabVIEW) £COMPETITIVE

The entry point for joining as a System Engineer or Snr System Engineer will be dependent on your technical knowledge and proven capabilities in the relevant areas to successfully undertake the duties and responsibilities. Joining our Systems Engineering Department, you’ll be part of a team that is responsible for developing both hardware and software solutions, based on object-oriented technology and event-based architectures, primarily in the LabVIEW programming language and on the National Instruments hardware platforms.

You will help customers across a wide range of applications and industries with a diversity of issues, from getting started with LabVIEW software, programming and debugging, to the onsite commissioning of complex systems including distributed real-time deterministic embedded systems. You will also be involved with projects such as creating demos and developing proof of concepts. You must exhibit strong problem-solving, communication and business acumen skills alongside a passion for technology. You will gain a privileged insight into engineering practices across a wide range of industries and will be part of an expert team providing consultancy on system requirements.

Our Senior System Engineers take on responsibility for leading projects acting as the primary technical contact to the client, including architecture design, and project management through the full project lifecycle and managing internal project teams. The complexity and size of projects will increase based on an individual’s skills and capabilities. They are also expected to be able to handle commercial project-related discussions with the client, including response to RFQ’s, requirements qualification and costings.

Duties & Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of these positions include, but are not limited to;

  • Programming memory and speed efficient applications using LabVIEW, object-oriented programming and event-based architectures.
  • Developing intuitive graphical user interfaces.
  • Selecting the correct measurement hardware for a given application based on a customer’s specification.
  • Providing timely, accurate and effective solutions to technical problems.
  • Providing guidance on the installation and working functionality of both software and hardware, including an explanation of configuration settings.
  • Troubleshooting problems and incompatibilities in both software and hardware.
  • Delivering professional and high quality, customer education courses.

Qualifications & Requirements

Technical Skills:

  • Minimum 2.1 honours degree in engineering or a science-related field, such as electrical/electronic engineering, physics, mechatronics, mechanical or computer science.
  • Minimum of LabVIEW qualification of Certified LabVIEW Developer, ideally Certified LabVIEW Architect (the requirement for Snr System Engineer level)
  • Certified TestStand Developer qualification desired but not essential.
  • Minimum of 3 continuous year’s practical commercial project experience in, instrumentation & control, industrial automation and ATE is required.
  • Firm knowledge and experience of National Instruments embedded systems, including LabVIEW FPGA and LabVIEW Real-Time.
  • Understanding and practical experience of object-oriented principles.
  • Experience with all National Instruments hardware platforms, including DAQmx, cRIO and PXI.
  • Practical electrical debug experience.
  • Experience in a second language, Python, JAVA, C and C++ is preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to learn new skills/languages/applications quickly (MATLAB, JavaScript, STK, etc.).

Commercial Skills:
